Accessibility & Assistive Technology

At Zanzibar National Association of the Blind (ZANAB), we work to promote a barrier-free environment where persons with visual impairments can move independently, access information, and fully participate in society.

We advocate for inclusive infrastructure, accessible services, and the use of appropriate technologies that enhance independence and dignity.

Our key interventions include:

White Canes, Orientation and Mobility Training, and Assistive Devices
We provide white canes and other assistive devices, along with orientation and mobility training to help individuals navigate their environment safely, confidently, and independently.
Digital Accessibility Initiatives
We promote access to digital tools and technologies, including screen readers and accessible platforms, ensuring that persons with visual impairments can access information, education, and online services without barriers.
Advocacy for Accessible Environments
We advocate for the design and implementation of accessible infrastructure in public spaces, transportation, and institutions.
Capacity Building on Assistive Technology

Economic Empowerment & Vocational Training

At Zanzibar National Association of the Blind (ZANAB), we are committed to promoting economic independence and self-reliance among persons with visual impairments. We recognize that access to livelihood opportunities is essential for dignity, inclusion, and improved quality of life.

Entrepreneurship Training Programs

Advocacy & Awareness

Inclusive Health & Rehabilitation

At Zanzibar National Association of the Blind (ZANAB), we are committed to improving the health and well-being of persons with visual impairments and individuals with albinism by promoting equitable access to inclusive and essential health services.

We work closely with communities, health providers, and stakeholders to address barriers to healthcare and to ensure that no one is left behind.

Eye Health Education and Outreach Programs
We conduct community awareness campaigns and outreach activities to promote eye health, early detection of vision problems, and timely access to treatment and care.
Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR)
We implement community-based rehabilitation programs that support individuals with visual impairments to live independently, improve mobility, and enhance their overall quality of life within their communities.
Eye and Skin Screening for Persons with Albinism
We organize regular screening services to detect eye conditions and skin-related health risks affecting persons with albinism, including early identification of skin cancer and other complications, followed by appropriate referrals and guidance.
Health Awareness and Preventive Education
We provide education on preventive healthcare practices, including sun protection for persons with albinism and general health promotion for people with visual impairments.

Inclusive Education

Inclusive Education

At Zanzibar National Association of the Blind (ZANAB), we believe that education is a fundamental right for every individual. Teacher Training and School Support
We equip teachers with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively support learners with visual impairments. This includes inclusive teaching methodologies, classroom adaptation techniques, and continuous mentorship for schools.
Braille Literacy and Accessible Learning Materials
We promote literacy through the provision of Braille training and the development and distribution of accessible learning materials, ensuring that learners can fully engage with the curriculum.
Awareness in Mainstream Schools
